Description
This Fall-Inspired Apple and Cranberry Grilled Cheese combines melty cheddar and creamy brie with crisp apple slices and tangy cranberry sauce for a cozy, sweet-and-savory sandwich. Perfectly toasted with buttery golden bread, it’s the ultimate comfort food for chilly autumn days.
Ingredients
- 8 slices sourdough or rustic bread
- 4 tablespoons butter, softened
- 1/2 cup cranberry sauce (homemade or store-bought)
- 1 medium Honeycrisp or Gala apple, thinly sliced
- 4 oz brie cheese, sliced
- 4 oz sharp white cheddar cheese, sliced or shredded
- Fresh thyme leaves (optional, for extra flavor)
Instructions
- Spread butter evenly on one side of each slice of bread.
- Place four slices, butter-side down, on a clean surface or skillet.
- Spread a tablespoon or two of cranberry sauce on each of the unbuttered sides.
- Layer with cheddar cheese, apple slices, and brie cheese. Sprinkle a few thyme leaves if desired.
- Top with the remaining bread slices, butter-side up.
- Heat a large skillet or griddle over medium heat. Cook the sandwiches for 3–4 minutes per side, pressing gently with a spatula, until the bread is golden brown and the cheese is melted.
- Remove from the skillet, let rest for 1 minute, then slice in half and serve warm.
Notes
- For a savory twist, add a few slices of cooked bacon or caramelized onions.
- Use whole-grain or rye bread for a nuttier flavor.
- Try adding a drizzle of honey for an extra hint of sweetness.
- Pairs perfectly with a bowl of tomato soup or butternut squash soup.
