A delicious twist on the classic green bean casserole, made with cheddar cheese, crispy onions, and Cheddar Bay biscuit mix for a rich and comforting holiday side dish.

Ingredients

  • 2 lbs fresh green beans, trimmed and blanched
  • 1 (10.5 oz) can cream of mushroom soup
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp onion powder
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 (6 oz) package Cheddar Bay biscuit mix (plus seasoning packet)
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 1/2 cups crispy fried onions

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine cream of mushroom soup, sour cream, milk, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper.
  3. Stir in blanched green beans and 3/4 cup shredded cheddar cheese. Mix until evenly coated.
  4. Transfer mixture into prepared baking dish and spread evenly.
  5. In a small bowl, prepare Cheddar Bay biscuit topping: mix biscuit mix with melted butter and seasoning packet until crumbly.
  6. Sprinkle biscuit topping evenly over casserole.
  7. Bake uncovered for 25–30 minutes until bubbly and topping is golden brown.
  8. Top with crispy fried onions and remaining cheddar cheese. Bake an additional 5 minutes.
  9. Serve warm as a holiday or comfort side dish.
