Description
A delicious twist on the classic green bean casserole, made with cheddar cheese, crispy onions, and Cheddar Bay biscuit mix for a rich and comforting holiday side dish.
Ingredients
- 2 lbs fresh green beans, trimmed and blanched
- 1 (10.5 oz) can cream of mushroom soup
- 1 cup sour cream
- 1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1/2 tsp garlic powder
- 1/2 tsp onion powder
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1 (6 oz) package Cheddar Bay biscuit mix (plus seasoning packet)
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 1/2 cups crispy fried onions
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine cream of mushroom soup, sour cream, milk, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper.
- Stir in blanched green beans and 3/4 cup shredded cheddar cheese. Mix until evenly coated.
- Transfer mixture into prepared baking dish and spread evenly.
- In a small bowl, prepare Cheddar Bay biscuit topping: mix biscuit mix with melted butter and seasoning packet until crumbly.
- Sprinkle biscuit topping evenly over casserole.
- Bake uncovered for 25–30 minutes until bubbly and topping is golden brown.
- Top with crispy fried onions and remaining cheddar cheese. Bake an additional 5 minutes.
- Serve warm as a holiday or comfort side dish.
Notes
- For a richer flavor, add cooked bacon crumbles to the casserole before baking.
- Frozen green beans can be substituted if fresh is unavailable.
- This dish is perfect for Thanksgiving, Christmas, or potlucks.
