Cheesy Stuffed Mozzarella Onion Rings are crispy, golden onion rings filled with stretchy mozzarella cheese—an irresistible appetizer or snack.
Ingredients
- 2 large onions, cut into thick rings
- 8 mozzarella cheese sticks, cut in half
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 2 large eggs
- 2 tablespoons milk
- 1 1/2 cups breadcrumbs
- 1/2 cup panko breadcrumbs
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- Oil for frying
Instructions
- Separate onion slices into rings and match similar-sized rings together.
- Place a piece of mozzarella between two onion rings to form a stuffed ring.
- Set up a breading station with flour in one bowl, eggs and milk whisked in another, and breadcrumbs mixed with panko and seasonings in a third.
- Dredge each stuffed onion ring in flour, then egg mixture, then breadcrumb mixture.
- Repeat breading once more for extra crispiness.
- Place breaded rings on a tray and freeze for 30 minutes.
- Heat oil in a deep pan to 350°F (175°C).
- Fry onion rings in batches for 2–3 minutes until golden brown.
- Remove and drain on paper towels.
- Serve hot with dipping sauce.
