Description

Cheesy Stuffed Mozzarella Onion Rings are crispy, golden onion rings filled with stretchy mozzarella cheese—an irresistible appetizer or snack.

Ingredients

  • 2 large onions, cut into thick rings
  • 8 mozzarella cheese sticks, cut in half
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • 1 1/2 cups breadcrumbs
  • 1/2 cup panko breadcrumbs
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • Oil for frying

Instructions

  1. Separate onion slices into rings and match similar-sized rings together.
  2. Place a piece of mozzarella between two onion rings to form a stuffed ring.
  3. Set up a breading station with flour in one bowl, eggs and milk whisked in another, and breadcrumbs mixed with panko and seasonings in a third.
  4. Dredge each stuffed onion ring in flour, then egg mixture, then breadcrumb mixture.
  5. Repeat breading once more for extra crispiness.
  6. Place breaded rings on a tray and freeze for 30 minutes.
  7. Heat oil in a deep pan to 350°F (175°C).
  8. Fry onion rings in batches for 2–3 minutes until golden brown.
  9. Remove and drain on paper towels.
  10. Serve hot with dipping sauce.

Notes

  • Freezing helps prevent cheese from leaking.
  • Use low-moisture mozzarella for best results.
  • Can be baked or air-fried as a lighter option.
