Description

A rich and indulgent Creamy Crab & Shrimp Au Gratin made with tender seafood in a velvety cream sauce, topped with melted cheese and baked until golden and bubbly.


Ingredients

  • 250 g shrimp, peeled, deveined, and chopped
  • 200 g crab meat (lump or claw)
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 cups whole milk
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 1/4 tsp paprika
  • 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper (optional)
  • 1 cup shredded Gruyère or mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 2 tbsp breadcrumbs
  • 1 tbsp chopped parsley (optional)


Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 190°C (375°F) and lightly grease a baking dish.
  2. In a skillet, melt butter over medium heat and sauté garlic until fragrant.
  3. Stir in flour and cook for 1 minute to form a roux.
  4. Gradually whisk in milk and cream, cooking until the sauce thickens.
  5. Season with salt, black pepper, paprika, and cayenne if using.
  6. Add shrimp and cook for 2–3 minutes until just pink.
  7. Gently fold in crab meat and half of the shredded cheese.
  8. Transfer the mixture to the prepared baking dish.
  9. Top with remaining cheese, Parmesan, and breadcrumbs.
  10. Bake for 20–25 minutes until bubbly and golden on top.
  11. Garnish with chopped parsley and serve hot.

Notes

  • Do not overcook the shrimp before baking to keep them tender.
  • Serve with crusty bread or over rice.
  • You can add a splash of white grape juice for extra depth.
