Description
A rich and indulgent Creamy Crab & Shrimp Au Gratin made with tender seafood in a velvety cream sauce, topped with melted cheese and baked until golden and bubbly.
Ingredients
- 250 g shrimp, peeled, deveined, and chopped
- 200 g crab meat (lump or claw)
- 2 tbsp unsalted butter
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
- 1 1/2 cups whole milk
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/4 tsp black pepper
- 1/4 tsp paprika
- 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper (optional)
- 1 cup shredded Gruyère or mozzarella cheese
- 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 2 tbsp breadcrumbs
- 1 tbsp chopped parsley (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 190°C (375°F) and lightly grease a baking dish.
- In a skillet, melt butter over medium heat and sauté garlic until fragrant.
- Stir in flour and cook for 1 minute to form a roux.
- Gradually whisk in milk and cream, cooking until the sauce thickens.
- Season with salt, black pepper, paprika, and cayenne if using.
- Add shrimp and cook for 2–3 minutes until just pink.
- Gently fold in crab meat and half of the shredded cheese.
- Transfer the mixture to the prepared baking dish.
- Top with remaining cheese, Parmesan, and breadcrumbs.
- Bake for 20–25 minutes until bubbly and golden on top.
- Garnish with chopped parsley and serve hot.
Notes
- Do not overcook the shrimp before baking to keep them tender.
- Serve with crusty bread or over rice.
- You can add a splash of white grape juice for extra depth.
