Description

Crock Pot Bourbon Chicken is a sweet, savory, tender slow-cooked chicken dish simmered in a rich bourbon-inspired sauce made with brown sugar, soy sauce, garlic, and spices — all with classic takeout-style flavor and effortless crock pot convenience.

Ingredients

  • 2 lbs boneless, skinless chicken breasts or thighs, cut into bite-sized pieces
  • 1/2 cup soy sauce
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup bourbon (or apple juice for non-alcoholic version)
  • 1/4 cup ketchup
  • 3 tbsp honey
  • 2 tbsp apple cider vinegar
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp ground ginger
  • 1/2 tsp crushed red pepper flakes (optional)
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch + 2 tbsp water (slurry)
  • 2 green onions, sliced (for garnish)
  • Sesame seeds for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Place chicken pieces into the crock pot.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk soy sauce, brown sugar, bourbon (or apple juice), ketchup, honey, apple cider vinegar, garlic, ginger, and red pepper flakes.
  3. Pour sauce mixture over the chicken and stir to coat.
  4. Cook on LOW for 4–5 hours or HIGH for 2–3 hours, until chicken is tender.
  5. Remove 1/4 cup of the cooking liquid, mix with cornstarch to form a slurry, then stir back into the crock pot.
  6. Cook on HIGH for an additional 10–15 minutes until the sauce thickens.
  7. Serve over rice and garnish with green onions and sesame seeds.

Notes

  • Use chicken thighs for the juiciest, most tender results.
  • For extra richness, add 1 tbsp butter when thickening the sauce.
  • Adjust sweetness by adding more or less brown sugar depending on preference.
  • Pairs well with steamed rice, noodles, or roasted vegetables.
