Description
Light and crispy churro bites made in the air fryer, coated in cinnamon sugar for a healthier twist on the classic fried treat.
Ingredients
- 1 cup whole wheat flour
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1/2 cup unsweetened applesauce
- 2 tbsp melted coconut oil
- 1/4 cup honey or maple syrup
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1/3 cup granulated sugar (or coconut sugar)
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- Olive oil spray
Instructions
- In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt.
- In another bowl, mix applesauce, melted coconut oil, honey, and vanilla extract until smooth.
- Combine wet and dry ingredients to form a thick dough.
- Transfer dough to a piping bag fitted with a star tip and pipe 1-inch pieces onto a parchment-lined tray.
- Preheat air fryer to 375°F (190°C). Lightly spray churro bites with olive oil.
- Air fry in batches for 6-8 minutes, or until golden and crisp.
- Mix sugar and cinnamon in a small bowl. While churro bites are still warm, toss them in the cinnamon sugar mixture.
- Serve immediately with a side of melted dark chocolate or fruit dip if desired.
Notes
- Use coconut sugar for a refined sugar-free option.
- Best enjoyed fresh, as they lose crispness over time.
- You can freeze uncoated churro bites and reheat in the air fryer.
