Description

Homemade Chicago-Style Deep Dish Pizza is a hearty, iconic pizza with a buttery thick crust, layers of gooey cheese, rich tomato sauce, and classic Italian seasonings baked to perfection.

Ingredients

  • 3 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup yellow cornmeal
  • 2 1/4 teaspoons instant yeast
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons sugar
  • 1 1/4 cups warm water
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 3 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1 can (28 oz) crushed tomatoes
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt (for sauce)
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons grated Parmesan cheese

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, mix flour, cornmeal, yeast, sugar, and salt.
  2. Add warm water, melted butter, and olive oil. Mix until a dough forms.
  3. Knead dough for 5–7 minutes until smooth.
  4. Place dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise for 1–1.5 hours.
  5. Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C).
  6. Grease a deep-dish pizza pan generously with butter.
  7. Press dough into the pan, pushing up the sides.
  8. Layer mozzarella cheese evenly over the crust.
  9. In a bowl, mix crushed tomatoes, garlic, oregano, basil, salt, and pepper.
  10. Spoon tomato sauce over the cheese layer.
  11. Sprinkle Parmesan cheese on top.
  12. Bake for 30–35 minutes until crust is golden and filling is bubbly.
  13. Let rest for 10 minutes before slicing.

Notes

  • Cheese goes under the sauce to prevent burning.
  • Use whole-milk mozzarella for best texture.
  • Let the pizza rest before cutting for clean slices.
