Description

Elegant bite-sized appetizers featuring tender beef wrapped in mushroom duxelles and puff pastry, perfect for parties or special occasions.


Ingredients

  • 1 lb beef tenderloin, cut into 1-inch cubes
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 8 oz mushrooms, finely chopped
  • 1 small shallot, minced
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tbsp fresh thyme, chopped
  • 1 sheet puff pastry, thawed
  • 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
  • 2 tbsp Dijon mustard


Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. Season beef cubes with salt and pepper, then sear in olive oil over high heat for 1 minute per side. Set aside to cool.
  3. In the same pan, melt butter and sauté mushrooms, shallot, and garlic until moisture evaporates.
  4. Stir in Worcestershire sauce and thyme, then cook until mixture becomes paste-like. Cool completely.
  5. Cut puff pastry into small squares large enough to wrap each beef cube.
  6. Brush each beef cube with Dijon mustard.
  7. Place a spoonful of mushroom mixture on each pastry square, top with beef, and wrap tightly.
  8. Seal edges and place seam-side down on a baking sheet lined with parchment.
  9. Brush tops with egg wash.
  10. Bake for 12–15 minutes or until pastry is golden.
  11. Cool slightly before serving.

Notes

  • Ensure the mushroom duxelles is fully dry to prevent soggy pastry.
  • Chill wrapped bites for 10 minutes before baking for cleaner layers.
  • Serve with a horseradish or Dijon dipping sauce.
