Description
Elegant bite-sized appetizers featuring tender beef wrapped in mushroom duxelles and puff pastry, perfect for parties or special occasions.
Ingredients
- 1 lb beef tenderloin, cut into 1-inch cubes
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 1 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
- 2 tbsp butter
- 8 oz mushrooms, finely chopped
- 1 small shallot, minced
- 2 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tbsp fresh thyme, chopped
- 1 sheet puff pastry, thawed
- 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
- 2 tbsp Dijon mustard
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C).
- Season beef cubes with salt and pepper, then sear in olive oil over high heat for 1 minute per side. Set aside to cool.
- In the same pan, melt butter and sauté mushrooms, shallot, and garlic until moisture evaporates.
- Stir in Worcestershire sauce and thyme, then cook until mixture becomes paste-like. Cool completely.
- Cut puff pastry into small squares large enough to wrap each beef cube.
- Brush each beef cube with Dijon mustard.
- Place a spoonful of mushroom mixture on each pastry square, top with beef, and wrap tightly.
- Seal edges and place seam-side down on a baking sheet lined with parchment.
- Brush tops with egg wash.
- Bake for 12–15 minutes or until pastry is golden.
- Cool slightly before serving.
Notes
- Ensure the mushroom duxelles is fully dry to prevent soggy pastry.
- Chill wrapped bites for 10 minutes before baking for cleaner layers.
- Serve with a horseradish or Dijon dipping sauce.
