Description

Old Fashioned Raisin Pie is a classic homestyle dessert featuring a sweet, spiced raisin filling cooked until thick and tucked inside a flaky pie crust, just like grandma used to make.

Ingredients

  • 1 double pie crust (top and bottom)
  • 2 cups raisins
  • 1 1/2 cups water
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 3 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon unsalted butter

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a saucepan, combine raisins and water. Bring to a gentle boil.
  3. Reduce heat and simmer for 5 minutes.
  4. In a small bowl, mix granulated sugar, brown sugar, cornstarch, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt.
  5. Stir sugar mixture into the raisin mixture and cook until thickened.
  6. Remove from heat and stir in lemon juice and butter.
  7. Pour filling into prepared bottom pie crust.
  8. Cover with top crust, seal edges, and cut slits for steam.
  9. Bake for 40–45 minutes until crust is golden brown.
  10. Cool completely before slicing.

Notes

  • Serve with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.
  • Let pie cool fully to allow filling to set.
  • Can be made a day ahead.
