Ingredients
- For the Red Velvet Cake:
- 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar

- 1 tablespoon unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 1/2 cups vegetable oil
- 1 cup buttermilk, room temperature
- 2 large eggs, room temperature
- 2 tablespoons red food coloring
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon white vinegar
- For the Cream Cheese Frosting:
- 16 oz cream cheese, softened
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 4 cups powdered sugar
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
- In a bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking soda, salt, and cocoa powder.
- In another bowl, mix oil, buttermilk, eggs, food coloring, vanilla extract, and vinegar until combined.
- Gradually add wet ingredients to dry ingredients and mix until smooth.
- Divide batter evenly between prepared pans.
- Bake for 30–35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
- Cool cakes in pans for 10 minutes, then turn out onto wire racks to cool completely.
- To make frosting, beat cream cheese and butter until smooth.
- Add powdered sugar gradually and beat until fluffy. Mix in vanilla extract.
- Frost cooled cake layers and assemble as desired.
