Tender, juicy meatballs inspired by classic Salisbury steak, simmered in a rich, savory mushroom gravy for the ultimate comfort meal.

Ingredients

    • 1 lb ground beef
    • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
    • 1/4 cup milk
    • 1 egg
    • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
    • 1 tsp garlic powder
    • 1/2 tsp onion powder
    • 1 tsp salt
    • 1/2 tsp black pepper
    • 2 tbsp olive oil

Mushroom Gravy:

  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 8 oz mushrooms, sliced
  • 1 small onion, sliced
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, milk, egg, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Mix gently.
  2. Form mixture into 1½-inch meatballs.
  3. Heat olive oil in a large skillet and brown meatballs on all sides. Remove and set aside.
  4. In the same skillet, melt butter and sauté mushrooms and onions until softened.
  5. Add garlic and cook 30 seconds.
  6. Sprinkle flour over mushrooms and stir to coat. Cook 1 minute.
  7. Gradually whisk in beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, and pepper until smooth.
  8. Return meatballs to the skillet, cover, and simmer 15–20 minutes until cooked through and gravy thickens.
  9. Serve hot with mashed potatoes, rice, or egg noodles.

Notes

  • Do not overmix meatballs to keep them tender.
  • Add a splash of cream for an extra-rich gravy.
  • Ground turkey can be substituted for a lighter option.
  • This dish reheats well and is freezer-friendly.
