Soft & Gooey Homemade Cinnamon Rolls are fluffy, tender rolls swirled with buttery cinnamon sugar and topped with a rich cream cheese glaze—perfect for breakfast or dessert.
Ingredients
- 3/4 cup warm milk
- 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 large egg
- 1 large egg yolk
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 2 tablespoons ground cinnamon
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened (for filling)
- 4 oz cream cheese, softened
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2 tablespoons milk (for glaze)
Instructions
- Warm milk until lukewarm and mix with yeast and granulated sugar. Let sit for 5–10 minutes until foamy.
- Add egg, egg yolk, and melted butter. Mix well.
- Stir in flour and salt until a dough forms.
- Knead dough for 8–10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Place dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise for 1 hour or until doubled.
- Roll dough into a rectangle and spread softened butter evenly.
- Mix brown sugar and cinnamon, then sprinkle over butter.
- Roll tightly and cut into 9–12 rolls.
- Place rolls in a greased baking dish, cover, and let rise for 30 minutes.
- Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 20–25 minutes until lightly golden.
- Mix cream cheese, powdered sugar, vanilla, and milk until smooth.
- Spread glaze over warm rolls and serve.
Notes
- Do not overbake to keep rolls soft and gooey.
- You can prepare the rolls overnight and bake in the morning.
- Add chopped nuts or raisins if desired.
