Description

South Carolina Bird Dog Sandwiches are a Southern comfort classic featuring crispy chicken tenders, smoky bacon, melted cheese, and tangy honey mustard — all nestled in a warm toasted bun. They’re quick to make, full of flavor, and perfect for game day or casual dinners.

Ingredients

  • 4 hoagie rolls or hot dog buns
  • 8 crispy chicken tenders (homemade or store-bought)
  • 8 slices bacon, cooked until crispy
  • 4 slices cheddar or Swiss cheese
  • 1/2 cup honey mustard sauce
  • 1 tbsp butter (for toasting buns)
  • Optional: lettuce, pickles, or sliced tomatoes for serving

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) or a grill pan over medium heat.
  2. Lightly butter the inside of the hoagie rolls and toast them in a skillet or oven until golden brown.
  3. Place two chicken tenders into each toasted bun.
  4. Top each sandwich with two slices of bacon and a slice of cheese.
  5. Place the sandwiches on a baking sheet and warm in the oven for 3–5 minutes, or until the cheese melts.
  6. Drizzle generously with honey mustard sauce.
  7. Serve immediately with optional toppings like lettuce, pickles, or tomatoes.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, brush the buns with garlic butter before toasting.
  • Use pepper jack cheese for a spicy twist.
  • Swap the honey mustard for barbecue or ranch sauce for variation.
  • Great served with fries, chips, or coleslaw on the side.
